What is DNA?

What is DNA?
The Denton Neighborhood Alliance (DNA) is a consortium of neighborhood associations and interested citizens joined together to pursue goals of common interest.

Mission Statement
The Denton Neighborhood Alliance recognizes that the neighborhood is the basic building block of the community. With rapid growth, new pressures are put on residential neighborhoods that have the potential to erode the character of established neighborhoods. The mission of the DNA is to foster and promote the preservation of the residential neighborhoods in Denton through networking, education, advocacy and by supporting and encouraging neighborhood associations.<

Participation

Voting Members
Voting rights are conferred on member organizations of the Denton Neighborhood Alliance and their delegates.
A Neighborhood Association shall be defined as a group of individuals within the city of Denton; who live in or own property in specific defined areas; who operate under some form of organizational structure; are in regular communication with one another; and have an established membership.

Non-Voting Members
The DNA is open to any resident of Denton with an interest in neighborhood preservation and a desire to work for the goals of the organization. Non-voting members shall be called Associate Members and will be freely permitted to participate in the projects, initiatives and discussions of the DNA.

Meetings
The DNA will meet at least quarterly and at other times as deemed necessary by the Chairperson. It is understood that in the matters of neighborhood preservation and zoning it may be necessary to call emergency meetings from time to time.

Officers
Election of officers will occur annually at the February meeting and shall consist of Chairperson, Chairperson pro tempore, Secretary and Treasurer.

Goals
To
serve as a voice for neighborhoods at the city level in a manner similar to the Chamber of Commerce in regard to business issues
To provide a regular meeting opportunity for citizens to address questions to city officials
To work with the City of Denton to conduct training on issues and organize meetings on topics of concern
To promote the creation of neighborhood groups/associations and assist in the development process of new neighborhood organizations
To share creative ideas for involving neighbors and maintaining neighborhood groups and associations
